Léo LARGUIER (La Grand-Combe, in the Cévennes, 1878–1950), p - Lot 26
Léo LARGUIER (La Grand-Combe, in the Cévennes, 1878–1950), poet, short-story writer, literary critic, and essayist. A set of five autograph, signed letters to Rémy de Gourmont, in which he discusses, among other things, his pastoral poem “Simone”: “I have read your ‘Simone’ and thank you for it. I don’t want to comment on your meter so as not to spoil the joy I feel in congratulating you on this lyrical piece.” He mentions his military service, which he performed in Aix-en-Provence: “I know nothing of life, being away on major maneuvers. Perhaps I received your booklet at La Grand Combe. As for the poem I gave you—the one you criticize for its ‘qui’s and ‘que’s’—please do not publish it; I’m not in the right frame of mind for poetry right now and won’t revise it. Tear it up." He addresses the subject of articles in magazines: “Here are some verses; I’m making an exception for you, as I never publish in magazines. An article by you would be, since you’re offering it to me, most welcome; one is understood and well-read only by young men, and I laugh at Deschamps’s nonsense in last month’s *Le Temps* (...) Need I tell you that I’m used to seeing my verses in first place?” 11 pages, in-8 format, addressed from 6 rue Tournefort or La Grand Combe.
