[Literary Autographs] - Paul MARIÉTON (Lyon 1862–1911), writer in the Provençal language, member of the Félibrige. A collection of 6 autograph letters and 4 autograph business cards, all signed and addressed to his friend Mr. Vierge, circa 1900. The letters comprise 16 folios in-8. "I cannot tell you, my dear friend, how much your last two articles have moved me. More than once I have suffered from having adopted this mask as my true nature... Yet the two adjectives you mention are both integral parts of my Lugdunian being. - A Rhône temperament, a Saône soul (if I may say so!)—a complex individual, like all people from Lyon—".." - Eugène PELLETAN (Saint-Palais-sur-Mer 1813–1884), writer, journalist, and politician. A collection of 8 signed autograph letters addressed to Auguste Dumont, editor of the newspaper *L’Estafette*, regarding their opinions, various articles written in 1855, and various matters. “For the past two months, I have severed all ties of collaboration with Le Siècle. Contrary to established practice in such circumstances, the editor-in-chief of that newspaper refused to inform readers of my departure... since you have been kind enough to extend hospitality to me at *L’Estafette*, my time is at your disposal.” “I am enclosing the letter below, which I ask you to publish the day before or on the day of the publication of my first variety piece. Above this letter, you may, if you so desire, include this simple note: ‘We are pleased to announce to our readers that Mr. Eugène Pelletan will henceforth be contributing two variety pieces per week to *L’Estafette*.’ "No flattery, please, no advertising. I believe that men like you and us must do things simply and with integrity." "It seems that Mr. Havin [political director and editor-in-chief of the national daily *Le Siècle*] is back on the offensive. I truly admire him. He refuses to run any advertisements in his newspaper and wants to force us to publish his prose; nevertheless, you did well to include the closing of his letter—you’ve got him in a trap.” The collection comprises 12 pages in-8; there is a small tear on one page near the signature caused by the wax seal. - Henri BERALDI (1849–1931), man of letters, founder and president of the Société des livres, print collector, bibliophile, art writer, and French publisher, Officer of the Legion of Honor. Two signed autograph letters, dated December 29, 1927, and October 20, 1930—the latter on stationery bearing his monogram—concerning the engraver Porret, one of the pioneers of the Romantic vignette in France.
